he Communications Centre was founded in 1993 when the first SCO UNIX server was installed at “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu. Relying on this server and the network installed in the building of the Faculty of Engineering, the Communications Centre provided free e-mail service to anyone who was interested. As a result of a sustained development the Centre of Communications manage a network of over 800 computers making use of city range and a modern optic fiber infrastructure.
In 2008 the Communications Centre became the Communications and Marketing Department.
The Communications Centre as representative of RoEduNet in the County of Sibiu provides services for the academic community of Sibiu and not only. This Centre also provides access to the network services of other institutions of education and research, governmental, non-governmental and non-profit organizations. Among the objectives of the Centre, the following are mentioned:
Management of the INTERNET and INTRANET network of the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu
Permanent contact with the communication network of the Ministry of National Education (RoEduNet)
