he Faculty of Journalism in Sibiu was founded in 1992. After three generations of alumni, the Romanian National Council for Academic Assessment and Accreditation accredited the Faculty of Journalism, thus acknowledging the quality and excellence of journalistic higher education in Sibiu. For 16 years, more than 500 journalists (representing 12 generations of alumni) have been educated here, many of them holding key positions in the local and national media.

Journalists trained in Sibiu are now working on the editorial board of different publications, such as: Adevarul, Romania Libera, Cotidianul, Evenimentul Zilei; for several specialized magazines, such as: Caminul, El si Ea, Playboy, National Geographic; for local publications, for TVR as well as private TV channels, scuh as: Antena 1, Prima TV, Pro TV, Realitatea TV; for Romanian Radio Broadcasting, BBC, Pro FM, Europa FM; for various publishing houses (including Pegasus Press – which issued the first edition of Who`s Who in Romania).

The assests of the academic training for journalists in Sibiu are: the experienced and qualified teaching staff; excellent relationships with personalities and academic communities both from Romania and aborad; the school radio station Antena Sibiului, broadcasting daily between 7 and 9 pm; the television studio and the laboratories for developing media products, which are equipped with the proper facilities, the book supplies in Romanian, French, English and German.

Since 2001, the Deparment of Journalism has offered a new undergraduate degree programme in Social Communication and Pubic Relations – thus meeting the demands and expectations of the communication and information market. Starting with the academic year 2003/2004, the Faculty of Journalism has added a new study programme, i.e. Philosophy.

The Faculty of Journalism offers the candidates the opportunity of attending Distance Learning courses. The Department for Distance Learning provides training both for the study programmes of Journalism as well as Communication and Public Relations, ensuring the professional development and upgrading of specialists in mass media and public relations. The Distance Learning courses are designed especially to meet the needs of those who already work in these fields, but do not have a university degree.The curriculum for Distance Learning has been designed in keeping with the full-time courses and it is structured in accordance with the European system of transferable credits.
