he Faculty of Sciences, through the variety of areas of competence that it addresses, has a special place in the structure of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, ensuring the achievement of high-quality educational, developed and perfected through complex research activity, in accordance with the requirements of and means offered by today’s information society.
In the current context of Romania's accession into the EU, it is important that trained specialists are able to work in Community programmes, for the application of which interdisciplinary knowledge is necessary: mathematics, computer science, physics, environmental science and biology, as fundamental areas, ensure that graduates acquire high levels of knowledge, applicable in science, technology, economics, etc.
Accelerating the process of informing Romanian society involves promoting forms of training tailored to a society in full competition, subject to European norms. Our management firmly opts for accountability, transparency and efficiency, in this sense, IT services, academic management and introducing all forms of knowledge and the concept of an intelligent institution will bring our faculty up to the international standards of developed countries.
The medium and long term development strategy of the Faculty of Sciences begins from objectives focused on the following activities: teaching, research activities, post-university training, inter-university cooperation, activities regarding university ethics, the social protection of members of the university community, and the development and modernization of logistics and material base.
The unprecedented rate of evolution of the modern world requires a thorough knowledge and a deepening of the fundamental sciences. In this respect, our faculty has leading experts in the fields of: Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Biology, who carry out teaching activities not only in the Faculty of Sciences, but also in other faculties of "Lucian Blaga" University.
The specialization "Ecology and Environmental Protection" trains specialists for the management of natural capital, land management, environmental expertise and management, applied ecology research, all being an integral part of socio-economic development strategies. Graduates of the subject "Physical Education and Sport" acquire various skills that will enable their employment in professional positions in education and health systems, in high-performance sport as well as in tourism and leisure activities.
Given the recognized importance of postgraduate studies at European level, the masters programmes organized by the Faculty of Sciences are aimed at cultivating creativity and developing high scientific qualifications for students through interdisciplinary studies: applied Informatical Mathematics, advanced informatics Systems and technologies, Managerial Informatics, Expertise and management of ecological systems, Applied Biology, Physical education and school sports, training and performance.
The quality of education is a prerequisite for improving professional employment, social cohesion and economic competitiveness.
