The Association for the Study of the world refugee problem – AWR – invites the students of the Lucian Blaga University to participate in the working sessions of the 59th Congress of AWR.
The Nature and the scope of the AWR
The AWR is a non-governmental, scientifically-oriented, international association created in 1951 for the purpose of studying possible solutions to the problem of refugees and migrant workers in general, through the cooperation of experts on a variety of subjects and social workers from many countries. The association is organized in national sections.
Patron of the AWR is H.S.H. Prince Nikolaus of . AWR has its seat in Vaduz (). It is a non-profit making, non-political organization holding the consultative status of the United Nations and the Council of Europe.
AWR promotes and coordinates scientific research on refugees and migrant workers. Its aim is to contribute through its scientific findings to the search for theoretical and practical solutions to the problem.
The results of the AWR studies and analyses are placed at the disposal of the competent governments and international organizations, through the submissions of its resolutions and recommendations. AWR promotes annual International Congresses, seminars, round tables, etc. In order to make known the results of its studies as widely as possible. It also publishes a quarterly magazine “AWR-Bulletin”, publisher BWV Berliner Wissenschafts-Verlag, Berlin , containing articles and papers by leading international experts on the subject, printed in four languages.
The 59th Congress will take place in Sibiu from September 24 to 27, 2009 and deals with “Migration and minorities in focus of EU-Enlargement”. The working sessions of conference are on Friday, September 24 (9.30 h – 18.00 h) and Saturday, September 25 (9.00h – 13.00) and will be subdivided in 3 sessions:
- General aspects of migration in and the states of Central Europe;
- Migration and economic aspects;
- Minorities in
The Conference venue is at the Protestant Academy of Transylvania – Evangelische Akademie Siebenbürgen, EAS; Str: Livezii 55, 550042 Sibiu .
As in the past the congress will give not only a forum for international scientists working in the fields of migration and/or minorities, but also for young interested students.
They students are exempt from the registration fee.
