Photo1he library of the Sibiu Institute of Higher Education was founded in 1969. It became a University Library in 1990, when Sibiu University was founded.

Until 2008, the Library was housed first by the School of Letters, then by the Military Academy of Land Forces. In 2000, it was declared Central Library of Lucian Blaga University Sibiu.

In 2008, the new premises are built as part of the School of Medicine; it was there that the Library collections were relocated from all previous branches. These grew year by year via purchase, publication exchange, and generous donations. The Library thus became an encyclopedic establishment meeting the requirements of scientific fields and academic specializations, for the research, information, and documentation of the entire University.

May 12, 2009 saw the festive inauguration of the new Library, one among the most modern in Romania and equipped according to European standards.

The Library has the following resources available:

  • More than 650,000 individual bibliographic units for in excess of 447,000 records in the Library Catalog
  • Periodicals comprising 15,000 volumes
  • Library collections organized for direct access on all four floors
  • 400 table seats for readers, provided with Internet access, including wireless connections
  • An Internet room with 50 stations
  • 6 individual reference rooms with Internet connections
